Womens Motorcycle Helmets Guide

What to look out for when choosing womens motorcycle helmets

I've written this guide to help lady bikers find womens motorcycle helmets that are made to fit them. Many helmet models do fit both women and men so you can still try on any helmet to check the fit but there are also models made specifically for women.

Types of Motorcyclist/Biker

There are 2 main types of biker, the first rides a motorcycle and the second prefers to ride as a passenger (pillion). The type of motorcycle helmet that you choose may differ depending on the type of motorcyclist you are. A pillion may find that a flip front helmet is better than a full face helmet.

Motorcycle Helmets Designed For Women

Schubeth Helmets

One of the luxury brands that make womens motorcycle helmets is Schuberth. Schuberth are a leader in the motorcycle helmet industry and also design helmets for BMW. Their helmets are some of the quietest available which makes them ideal for both riders and pillions.

Schuberth C3 Lady Womens HelmetThe Schuberth C3 Lady is worth some investigation. This model has been specially designed to fit the female head and face shape and it's also a flip up helmet which makes it great for touring. If you make a lot of stops on a journey this is very useful as you don't have to keep removing the C3 everytime you want to speak to someone.

Should you buy the C3 Lady helmet just because it's suited to women?

No. It's important to try on helmets from different manufacturers to see how comfortable they are. Some shell sizes won't fit your head shape.

Womens motorcycle helmets for petite bikers

Arai Astro Light Womens HelmetBikers with smaller heads will want to try out the Arai Astro Light which has been made for those riders finding that other helmet models are too big.

Finding the correct helmet to fit you is difficult so if you haven't had any luck so far then go try this one out!

Apart from the Schuberth C3 and Arai Astro Light helmets I don't know of any others that are designed and marketed as a womens motorcycle helmet.

The majority of helmets are unisex and the only thing that makes models different is the rider's head shape. Have any questions? Ask me here

Recommended Helmets - Motorcycle Graphics

These helmet colours and graphic finishes may appeal to women. Each of the helmets below is unisex. Please note the same helmets are available in other colours and I'm not suggesting that all women bikers like pink!

Shark S600 Sweety Pink Ladies HelmetShark S600 "Sweety" in Pink

This helmet looks good but it's not just a fashion accessory, it is fairly cheap at around £100.

As motorcycle helmets go this is good value for money.

The other reason I chose this as a recommended helmet is that it scored 4 out of 5 in the SHARP safety tests. It weighs in at 1,450 grams which isn't heavy but it also isn't the lightest.

It's also available in a range of other colours including "Sweety" Blue and "Folies" White.

Nolan N85 Frizzy Helmet in PinkNolan N85 "Frizzy" N-com in Pink with Black graphics

The Nolan N85 has a 4 out of 5 SHARP rating and also has an internal sun visor.

What makes this helmet better than others is that it is set up to be compatible with the Nolan N-com communication system, making it a good choice if you are riding pillion.

At around £140 it's also good value. Get free delivery on this helmet from Sportsbikeshop.

If pink is not your thing

If you don't like pink then don't worry, there are still plenty of motorcycle helmets available! Recommended helmets include the Caberg Ego and the AGV K3. HJC also have a good range of helmets and other manufacturers such as Shoei and Arai also offer top of the range helmets for those with larger budgets.

Where to buy

These helmets are available to buy from reputable dealers. If you're buying online I can recommend Sportsbikeshop. It's also available from GetGeared who have both high street stores and a website.

Note: If you're unsure about sizing please try on the helmet before buying.
