Suomy Vandal HelmetThe Suomy Vandal is derived from MotoGP and World Superbike helmets and comes in single colour or graphic finishes. It is both EC and DOT approved.

The Vandal is the current helmet that I wear day to day as it's very comfortable. I've read other reviews on this helmet and I agree with the reviewers when they say that it's a noisy helmet. On longer journeys I wear earplugs so noise isn't really a problem for me.

Quick Review Summary

Cons:

  • Noise! A very noisy helmet, ear plugs are a must on longer journeys.
  • Low speed fogging
  • Difficult to adjust vents while riding.

Pros:

  • Exceptionally light due to it's fibreglass shell.
  • Comfortable to wear even for long periods of time.

Safety Ratings

SHARP Rating - 5 Stars - highest safety rating.

United States Department Of Transport (DOT) - Approved

UK - ACU and EC approved

Visor

The visor is anti-scratch and anti-fog but fog does still build up at low speed. In wet weather I find that it fogs up quite a lot, so the visor has to be opened slightly to stop this happening.

Comfort

The helmet is very comfortable. I have been wearing it almost every day for a year (for at least an hour on most rides) and have had no problems with comfort. I used it during a charity event which involved riding 1000 miles in 24 hours and the Vandal didn't create any pressure points for the entire 1000 miles!

Around Town

No problems here, mostly I have the visor up if I'm going under 30mph. It seems to start fogging a little bit if the visor is kept down, although this does happen on many other motorcycle helmets because there isn't enough ventilation at lower speeds.

High Speed

At speeds of 60 mph and over there is very little buffeting (I have tried this helmet out on a Yamaha TDM Mark I, Honda CBR 600F-V, Kawasaki GPX 750R and a Yamaha Fazer 600). As mentioned above the wind noise is very loud, which is the only down side of this helmet.

Ventilation

The ventilation of the Vandal helmet is very good but the vent operation isn't good while riding along.

Good Lid let down  Not rated yet
I've owned Suomy Vandal lid for over 3 years, I believe it was one of the first to come to the UK.
