HJC CS R1, great for the money

Say what you like about HJC CS R1 helmet, but it offers the best peripheral vision of any I have tried save an open face.

Personally, I rate peripheral vision extremely highly when choosing a helmet. Even a small blind spot when making a shoulder check can turn into a big problem. I have found that this helmet requires just that little bit less head turn to do a proper shoulder check and for me that was a big selling point (along with the fit and the £50 price tag). Sure I will buy a better one when I pass my bike test, but for now it is just fine and dandy.
