Review of the AFX-39DS Motorcycle Helmet
The AFX FX-39DS (Dual Sport) helmet is part off-road and part street.
This helmet is the replacement for the FX-37 helmet and AFX have designed it based on feedback from customers.
Shield/Visor
The main issue that the FX-37 had was an extremely curved shield which caused problems with objects being mis-shapen when looking through it. This has been fixed with the FX-39DS and the shield has been completely re-designed.
It is now much less curved and optically correct. If you want to wear googles while riding with the shield in the down position this can be done thanks to the small cut-outs on each edge of the shield. This allows the visor to close even when goggles are fitted.
Peak
This helmet also has a peak, the angle of this peak can be adjusted to suit your riding style and this adjusment feature also helps to prevent lift when riding unfaired motorcycles.
Strap/Retention system
The strap of the FX39 Dual Sport helmet has been updated and is now a quick release rather than a double D strap. This means it's better for touring. The only thing missing from the strap is a way of hooking up the extra material as the strap is left flapping in the wind. Although this is easily fixed with velcro it's a shame it hasn't been included.
Lining
The interior lining is plush and comfortable, the helmet has removable cheek pads which helps make the FX-39DS fit well.
Graphics
There are some awesome camo graphics for this helmet and they fit the Enduro style well.
Ventilation
The AFX FX-39DS offers good ventilation, especially through the front chin vent. There are also 2 separate top vents and 4 more vents across the back of the helmet.
Overall Rating
AFX have done it again with the FX39DS. This Dual Sport helmet is already popular and suitable for long distance touring. If you are adventure touring on a budget then this is the helmet to buy!
